Often, a good title can really get people to read your articles. However, in the online world, this is usually not the case. Unlike printed articles, you need something to direct users to you. And that is where the title tag definitely comes in handy. The title tag is essentially the header for the whole page containing your article. It is the one that appears on the top of the web page. Aside from serving as a header for the page, the title tag is also the one mainly used by search engines and other online query systems in keeping track of your article and listing them in the search results. Thus, optimizing your title tags is definitely a must if you want your pages to be read. However, this might not be easy as you think. First of all, you need to decide on what to put on your title tag. And here, you need to carefully consider between optimizing the title for the search engines and making it readable, if not attention grabbing, to readers. Choosing the right words to use in the title tag is very crucial in maximizing your keywords for both purposes. One of the easiest way to do so is to put in the keywords that you what to use in both the title tag and the title of the article itself. However, refrain from overdoing it, as you would end up with a title that, though prominent in the keyword searches, will leave your readers scratching their heads as to what the heck your title bar means. Thus, composition is also very important. One thing to remember is to make your titles as logical as possible. If you are not using the title of the article for the title tag, you can still make good use of the title tag by using it as a header to describe the contents of the article. This will make it very helpful to your readers. Again, remember to choose the keywords wisely that you are going to use for both the title tag and the article's actual title. You can even increase your article's prominence by choosing a different set of related keywords for your title tag. Another important thing to remember is to be concise in the contents of your title tag. Thus, if the title of your actual content is quite long, then you need to find a way to effectively summarize it in the tag. At most, keep your title tags to only about 55 to 65 characters as a maximum. As a last tip, never use general descriptions for your title tags, these includes such phrases as “page 1”, “featured article” and the like. These are often used by lazy website administrators who want to cut their work short. Remember that you are out to get as much traffic as you can, so you need to use everything that will increase such traffic, the title tag being one of them. Thus, you need your title tag specifically point to your and not be just some random header. |
